My normal commute to work is about 15 minutes. I walk 1.5 blocks to the subway, wait about 5 minutes at the most on the platform, ride about 40 blocks north and walk a few blocks to my office building. Today however (see above), we had a big storm and the A/C/E/1/2/3/4/5/6, LIRR and MetroNorth trains were all not running.

I ride the N train and stood on the sweltering hot platform for 30 long minutes in a satin top and jeans (bad choice!). When the train finally came, I mashed my body up against hundreds of New Yorkers - gotta get on the air conditioned train damn it! I think I still have the imprint of a woman's designer purse on my butt. Total time: 55 minutes door to door.
