Age discrimination, that's what I call it. I went to the grocery store today in Connecticut to buy a few odd items and most importantly some beer for the weekend. I got to the check out counter and was asked for my ID - typical, I get carded a lot. No problemo. After I hand it over, the check-out woman walks away to get a manager. The manager comes over to me and in a very rude tone says "there is no way we can accept this out of state ID." I asked why, it's just a NY license. She said that you cannot buy beer with an out of state license and there's no way for her to tell if it's real. I have NEVER heard of such a thing. I am positive they thought I was under 21 and used that as an excuse.
Come on! I had bread, granola and DanActive in my cart - I looked more like an 80 year old shopper. They actually asked me what I wanted to do with the rest of the stuff in my cart....um, I'm gonna buy it you stupid idiots. Like a true New Yorker, I make a fuss at how ridiculous this was and got the people in the line behind me on my side.
And after all that, I need a beer!
