The subway is the best place for potential blog postings. So much happens in the span of time it takes me to get to work (only 15 min). I walk on today and find a man leaning against the middle pole...hate when people do that. I cant hold on to that one because I can't reach above his head. Otherwise i'll have to end of touching the man - Rule #1 of subway riding...dont touch anyone. So, I hold on to another pole and notice this man dressed in a suit sitting down at a nearby seat. He takes a small notbook out of his briefcase and opens it up to a middle page. He begins drawing something and I'm obviously staring at what he's drawing. (Nothing is personal on the subway!) I can't figure out what it is, so I look to see what he keeps glancing at in hopes of discovering what he's drawing. There's a teenage girl by the door. I look back at his page and realize that he's drawing her legs....just her legs. It was a very spefic drawing and he was really getting into it. Then I notice other people are looking at his drawing. One of them is a man sitting immediately to his left. This onlooker looks up from his novel to see what the artist is drawing. And he's not shy about it...he's turning his head and looking right at it. So Artist picks up his head a looks right at Novel Man. They make eye contact and both return to their respective work. A few seconds later, Artist leans over and starts reading Novel Man's book over his shoulder while another onlooker is examining Artist's "legs." It was all a bit strange and I was tempted to tell the teenager that this creepy man was drawing her legs because she looked like she could easily have started some trouble. But I refrained and got off at my stop to go to work. Only in NY my friends.
