I'm on my first official team for a project in grad school. And I lucked out! I'm with a great group of people...so far ;-) I couldnt help but look around the room when people raised their hands for a particular subject for the teams...I had to see my potential team mates! But I didnt look behind me and this guy raises his hand and in very broken english says "If I dont like the team I'm on or dont like the subject, can I change when it gets closer to the paper being due?" What the hell? This team project lasts throughout the entire semester and I'd be pretty mad if I were on his team and he backed out at the last minute. This class is called Management and Organzational Behavior...and I think he should join the team called "you're stuck, so deal with it." Anyway, I was afraid I had miscalculated and he could possibly be on my team. I mean, I would use my work skills to include a tough-acting team member and all would have been fine, but I sure am happy he went to another team. The thing is, this guy is really nice and he tries really hard with a tough hold on the english language so I should cut him some slack, I guess.

moving on...my team of 4 women has decided to work on People Promoted into Management with No Management Skills and how this plays out in the organization's success overall. And I come from a background where there were managers who were promoted based on their knowledge of the mission of the organization but didnt have any sort of skills to manage people (this has happened in several jobs fyi). My team mate has recently been promoted and has never managed people before and is scared, but wants to do the right thing. And another team mate is working under a CFO who is great with numbers on a page but has no people skills and thus has trouble managing. I think we will learn a lot from each other. And 2 team mates live outside of the city so we'll have to meet on weeknights instead of weekends which Tino will love to hear.

Yo, I'm goin' to Brooklyn tomorrow. No sleep till Brooklyn! Peace out.
