Day 3 - Transit Strike

The strike is still on, but I hear there are talks about getting trains up and running sooner rather than later. Who knows. I dont believe anything until I can swipe my MetroCard and smell the sweet odor of urine soaked hobos on the train. They say that getting the trains back up and running from way out in Brooklyn (or is it Queens, I dunno) will take almost an entire day....so I'll believe it when I see it.

I've been walking every day while a lot of people have been getting creative with taxis and other non-MTA trains (the Path and MetroNorth). I could take the Path train from 14th to 34th, but why would I do that when I can walk and get exercise. This walking is making me feel good...getting exercise twice a day is great for my mood, just ask tino :)

But here's the crazy part - the taxis! They have created zones like in DC and are charging out the butt! My coworker went out for drinks on Tuesday night and she and her 2 friends decided to catch a cab 6 blocks because it was really cold and windy. All 3 got in a cab and the cabbie said it would cost $10 per person. That's a $30 cab ride that would normally cost about $5. They jumped out and walked. That's price gouging if you ask me!

So I continue to walk. Last night, I stopped at Barnes and Noble and bought a bunch of christmas gifts. This strike is really hurting the retailers. Barnes & Noble is normally open until 11pm and this week they close at 8pm each night because they dont have enough employees to keep it open. Same goes for a lot of other retailers.

This morning, I went to Bed Bath & Beyond - It was great! I've never been in there when it wasnt mad busy. This morning I had 10 different employees say hello to me and ask if I needed anything. Usually, I'm searching for someone to help me.

Yeah, that urine remark was pretty descriptive - even by Hemingway's standards. And you've never been to a Bed, Bath and Beyond!? Jeez, I thought that was Mecca for women :).

oh, no, I've been to BBB millions of times, but I had never been there when it was empty.
